She came home!

After serving faithfully and well, our daughter Alison came home from her mission on Oct 22, 2014.

I had missed her sooooo much! I had sent 2 boys on missions and had learned that each mission comes with its own set of trials and circumstances. I learned that you worry about different things with each child. You wonder how they will deal with the wide variety of obstacles or life events. You wonder if you have taught them enough, if their testimony is strong enough, if they will be safe.

While Alison was gone, I learned that you worry about completely different things for your girls than you do your boys. I also learned that with Alison, I didn’t need to worry about much! She has always been a wonderful girl, a joy to have in our home

Ella Grace is here!

Ella Grace made her entrance into the world last Saturday. Her mom Emma did very well considering it was her first baby.

IMG_0614 Here she is on her first day in this world. Like all babies she gets prettier everyday. She’s a pretty good sleeper and seems to be a very content baby. Like a lot of newborns she has a bit of jaundice. The doctor had Emma put her in a light box. Apparently it was a horrendous thing for Ella. She hates being naked and she had to be under the lamp. She loves being snuggled

Farming Worms

We have been working on a new project in our garden for over a year now. We are growing worms! Emma tells me that I really shouldn’t phrase it like that because it sounds like I have a terrible medical condition! However I saw this thing online and I had to try it.

Some back round information: Summer 2012 we planted a bunch of tomatoes and tomatillos. We had a pretty decent harvest, but as the season should have just been really rolling, we saw our bushes dying daily. At first I thought it was

The Nursery

My daughter Emma had a baby girl last Saturday! It’s her first baby. Our family hadn’t had a baby in a couple years and we were all getting a little baby hungry, especially Shay! Shay is my son’s wife, she has 2 little girls of her own, but alas……they are 2 and 4 and soooo not tiny babies any more. So partially because she’s in a baby mood and partially because she’s just a sweetheart, she decided she would do up a cute little nursery for baby Ella as her gift.

Emma became a huge Harry Potter

What a guy!

My husband and I have a long standing, stress relieving hobby. We plan a renovation on our house. We can’t afford to do it, but that’s the beauty of paper and pencils or a computer program, you can remodel and plan until your hearts content! We have done it many times, thinking about what goes where, how to make the most of what we have, all kinds of things. But a while ago he came up with a basic plan for a remodel that I fell in love with.

He does all the work, all the planning. He knows

Another Marriage lesson

Time together is precious!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I remember a young couple I knew a few years ago. They were expecting their first child. They were so excited and so in love and so in love iwth the idea of becoming parents. Then the baby was born early and didn’t live, it was bad. This is a very hard thing to go through but the husband was so distraught that the doctor gave him some medication to help calm him down and he had an allergic reaction and died. Now this young

A Marriage lesson

It sounds trite and old fashioned but communication is an absolute must in a good marriage.

I have told my girls that if I ever hear them say”If he loved me he would know…….” I will punch them in the nose! Nothing ever has or ever will compensate for just opening your mouth and telling him what you want, need, or just can’t stand.

A man’s brain doesn’t work like a woman’s brain. A man’s brain is very compartmentalized. he does one thing at a time and nothing has anything to do with anything
