December – Relief Society Lesson – The Godhead
Show video – God is our Father
We began this year with this lesson, and because of some changes from the stake we are ending the year with the same lesson.
When we had this lesson in January I told you that I felt strongly that the goal of these lessons for us this year needed to be that by the end of the year we would know, really know that our Father in Heaven loves us.
For me, this year has been quite a journey. I have learned a great deal, I have experienced growth in my testimony. If I'm brutally honest I would have to say that I know that…
Show video – Good tidings of great joy: The Birth of Jesus Christ
Our lesson today is on Building the Kingdom and as I've thought about this I realized we could talk about a million different things. We could talk about missionary work, teaching our families, being good examples and neighbors, learning more about the gospel, serving others, temple work, all kinds of things. But what kept coming back to me was that none of this happens unless you have a testimony of Jesus Christ and then in order to use that testimony of Christ, you must be a witness for him and of him. So we're going to talk about being a witness of Jesus Christ.
November Relief Society Lesson – Spiritual and Temporal Self Reliance
Show video “They that are wise”.
When I was younger and had much yet to learn, I thought of the story of the 10 virgins as a story of meanness and selfishness. It came across to me as, we've got ours, you go get yours, of not sharing and not helping, and how could those who wanted to be with the bridegroom so badly just be turned away like that? And he says you know me not?
Now in Mr. Dalleys class I got pretty good grades in interpreting poems but I did and still tend to take things too literally. This story is a parable, and in the Bible…
This has been a hard lesson for me, whether it was because I have so much to learn about becoming Christ-like or Satan really wanted to test my ability to become Christ-like, I don't know. But it has been quite a struggle to learn and then decide what we needed to talk about today.
One of the things that I found helpful was learning yet again, that we are not expected to be perfect, just moving forward. As mortals we learn line upon line, precept upon precept. In that way we learn at our pace and in the manner best suited for us. Some of us are going gang busters, some are lagging behind, but the point is to…
August Relief Society Lesson – Commandments
Standards for salvation are called commandments, which are given by our Father in Heaven. These standards apply to all parts of our lives and at all times. They are not selectively applied at a certain time or in a certain situation. The commandments define the tolerances required to qualify for exaltation.
Tolerance in the worldly term is to accept someones choices or behavior no matter what the consequences. Tolerance in the engineering term is a defined standard to within say, a thousandth of an inch or 99.9% pure.
The Lord has given us tolerances or standards or commandments to help us qualify for exaltation.
The plan for us on this earth is to…
July Relief Society Lesson – Marriage and Family
Show video of families singing Our Father has a Family
OUR FATHER HAS A FAMILY – IT'S ME IT'S YOU ALL OTHER TOO, WE ARE HIS CHILDREN
We are going to begin this lesson by talking about the “all others too” part of that sentence. Which means we are going to talk about family history.
We all benefit from doing family history work. We learn of our ancestors, their stories, their hardships, the things they overcame and it helps us to grow and learn that we can over come. Our children feel a greater sense of belonging that ties them to us and lets them know their place in the world, our…
Priesthood Authority Given to Men on Earth
God gives priesthood authority to worthy male members of the Church so they can act in His name for the salvation of His children. Priesthood holders can be authorized to preach the gospel, administer the ordinances of salvation, and govern the kingdom of God on the earth.
Male members of the Church may begin their priesthood service when they reach the age of 12. They begin by holding the Aaronic Priesthood, and they later may qualify to have the Melchizedek Priesthood conferred on them. At different stages in their lives and as they prepare themselves to receive different responsibilities, they hold different offices in the priesthood, such as deacon, teacher, or priest in the…
