The baptism of Jesus Christ and it's importance - Sacrament meeting talk by Alison 1/26-2025

I was asked to speak today on Jesus’ baptism, and its significance. Or in other words; why was it so important for Jesus to be baptized?

Often when we talk or teach about baptism, our main focus is the remission of sins. Which, by itself, is an incredible blessing; being able to completely erase our past mistakes. But if the remission of our sins was the only purpose of baptism, why would a perfect, sinless man need to be baptized? There has to be more; there has to be a bigger picture, a larger purpose for baptism.

I love Primary songs! They teach Gospel truths in simple, yet powerful ways. And the song, ‘Baptism’, helps us understand the larger purpose of baptism, and why it was important for Jesus to be baptized.

It says,

Jesus came

The Divine Role of Motherhood–Sacrament Meeting Talk 5/14/2017

The Divine Role of Motherhood

I have women in my life who live in all kinds of circumstances. I know women who have never married, women who have no children of their own, women who have struggled mightily with infertility, women who have suffered numerous miscarriages, women who have lost a child to death, women whose children have strayed and broken hearts. I know single mothers, widows, seemingly perfect moms and moms who struggle daily just to deal with life. I know moms who coach every

Grand Canyon Trip–Day Three–November 20,2016

We slept in a bit this morning if 8am is sleeping in, which I guess for us really is. We had to be checked out by 11am which meant we could take our time and we did. We showered and dressed and cleaned up our things leaving the luggage in our room for the bellman……boy do we sound fancy! We hiked back over to the food court for breakfast, oatmeal for me and you guessed it…..a breakfast burrito for Adam! There are other places to eat but this is good and so darned convenient!

Adam decided that

Grand Canyon Trip–Day Two–November 19,2016

Even on vacation there has to be an alarm sometimes, not the fire kind those are bad, but the get up and at them kind you’re going to miss all the fun!

So early this morning we woke to the sound of the alarm. We had showers, packed up and off we went. As we headed for the lobby Adam said he needed a quick duck into the business center to “borrow” a mouse to fix his tablet. He had found a way to fix it and wanted to do it before we left. I knew he couldn’t leave it alone! But within 5 minutes

Grand Canyon Trip–Day 1–November 18, 2016

Total disclosure here, it’s been a while since I have written much of anything and I’m feeling pretty rusty, so be prepared for some rambling!

I’m pretty excited about contributing to the travel section, it means we actually went somewhere! For this trip alone I had the experiences and I’m not living vicariously, woohoo!!

Friday morning dawned bright and early for me, later for Adam. When he finally woke up it took me about 10 minutes to pack a bag, he took about an hour. Now in fairness to him

Adam’s Sacrament Meeting Talk–February 2016

I was asked to speak on the scriptures. What does that mean, Scriptures?

The term scripture usually means written documents. But for us as Latter Day Saints, the concept of scripture has two complementary definitions. first, a narrow view that includes only the standard works as the scriptures, and secondly, a broader definition that includes all revelation from God as scripture. both of these are authoritative, since both are viewed as coming from God.

In the first definition, we would include

Relief Society Lesson–The Atonement–February 2016

Tell me every thing you know about the Atonement.......

Discussion – we talked about forgiveness and scarifice

In the book True to the Faith we read a simple explanation:

The word atone means to reconcile, or to restore to harmony. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can be reconciled to our Heavenly Father. We can ultimately dwell in his presence forever, having been made perfect through Jesus.

Jesus Christ was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem his people. In
