Grand Canyon Trip–Day Three–November 20,2016

We slept in a bit this morning if 8am is sleeping in, which I guess for us really is. We had to be checked out by 11am which meant we could take our time and we did. We showered and dressed and cleaned up our things leaving the luggage in our room for the bellman……boy do we sound fancy! We hiked back over to the food court for breakfast, oatmeal for me and you guessed it…..a breakfast burrito for Adam! There are other places to eat but this is good and so darned convenient!
Adam decided that my water bottle hadn’t quite been enough for us both yesterday so he found a gift shop and got him one. When…
Grand Canyon Trip–Day Two–November 19,2016

Even on vacation there has to be an alarm sometimes, not the fire kind those are bad, but the get up and at them kind you’re going to miss all the fun!
So early this morning we woke to the sound of the alarm. We had showers, packed up and off we went. As we headed for the lobby Adam said he needed a quick duck into the business center to “borrow” a mouse to fix his tablet. He had found a way to fix it and wanted to do it before we left. I knew he couldn’t leave it alone! But within 5 minutes he was back with me and had a victorious look on his face, all was…
The Clark County Fair and Rodeo
About 30 years ago, our little valley started up a fair. It was a place where the 4H kids could show their animals, local people could sell their baked goods and hand made items to other local people, a tiny carnival would come and the kids would get all excited about the 3 or 4 rides available. The entire valley would shut down including the main street through town, cars would line the streets, and beanbag games and sack races would become a life or death competition. For that one day we all came together and celebrated and played and visited and thought we were pretty big time.
Last week our valley opened our doors to the entire county once…
Grand Canyon Trip–Day 1–November 18, 2016
Total disclosure here, it’s been a while since I have written much of anything and I’m feeling pretty rusty, so be prepared for some rambling!
I’m pretty excited about contributing to the travel section, it means we actually went somewhere! For this trip alone I had the experiences and I’m not living vicariously, woohoo!!
Friday morning dawned bright and early for me, later for Adam. When he finally woke up it took me about 10 minutes to pack a bag, he took about an hour. Now in fairness to him he does have to decide what gadgets and cords and chargers and such to take and then what will actually fit in his bag and just how much weight will…
A Year of Holidays
The holidays are over. The decorations are coming down and, it seems, too often we end up packing away our holiday cheer along with the ornaments and wrapping paper. Families go from spending all day playing together to spending all day working alone in their emotional/mental cubicles. The last few Christmas cookies grow stale on the counter because, quite frankly, they just don’t taste the same after the fact. This is an interesting and conflicted time of the year. Society tells us we should set New Year’s resolutions for ourselves…yet no one expects us to keep them. We are told to keep the holiday spirit alive all year…yet we pack up all the reminders, are inundated with year-end sales, and then have to clean the house for the Super Bowl party. Each year at this time I find myself struggling with what the French would, I believe, call ennui……
