| 2 tablespoon(s) yeast |
| 1/2 cup(s) warm water |
| 1 cup(s) quick cooking oats |
| 1/2 cup(s) molasses |
| 1/3 cup(s) shortening |
| 1 tablespoon(s) salt |
| 6 cup(s) flour |
| 2 beaten eggs |
| 1 beaten egg white |
| 1 tablespoon(s) water |
| 1 1/4 cup(s) boiling water |
Grandma's Oatmeal Bread Directions
- Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Combine boiling water, oats, molasses, shortening and salt, cool to lukewarm. Stir in 2 cups of the flour. Beat well.
- Add yeast mix and 2 beaten eggs, stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough. Turn out onto a floured board and knead until smooth and elastic. Shape dough into a ball.
- Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place til doubled.
- Punch down, divide into 2 loaves, shape into 2 loaves, place in loaf pans
